Examining Ways To Allocate the Carbon Dioxide Removal Requrirement Fairly

About

Since future greenhouse gas emissions will exceed the carbon budget for 1.5°C, significant quantities of CO2 will need to be removed from the atmosphere in order to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C in the year 2100 (see Figure 1 for an example of the quantities involved). The primary purposes of this Web site are to help people
  • understand the "trajectories" of various climate change "indicators" (see the "Image Sets" section)
  • explore the carbon dioxide removal requirements for a variety CO2 emission pathways (see the "Calculate CDR Requirements" section)
  • explore the various countries’ responsibility for preventing catastrophic climate change (see the "Allocate Global CO2 and CDR Budgets" section)
In order to do this, assumptions need to be made about
1. The required maximum temperature increase or maximum PPM of atmospheric CO2 (which determines the post-2020 carbon budget)
2. A reasonable CO2 emissions pathway (which determines the cumuilative CO2 emissions and therefore the amout of CO2 that will need to be removed from the atmosphere to meet the post-2020 carbon budget)
4. How the responsibility for CO2 removal will be divided among the counties of the world.

CO2Budget: 400 GT CO21

CO2 Emissions (2020-2100):
1,876 GT CO22
CO2 Removal: 1,476 GT CO23
